- HRa pattern of work designed to provide cover seven days a week, 24 hours a day, comprising three eighthour or two twelve-hour shifts, or a mix of the two. Continuous shiftwork may be necessary to make full use of expensive capital equipment or to provide round-the-clock customer service. It may be confined to one group of employees, such as computer or security staff, while other parts of the organization use different shift patterns.
